DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA
Pick up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer by tourist vehicle to Ollantaytambo, continuing to Km 82 where the trek officially begins. The guided hike follows the route passing through Llactapata and along the Urubamba Valley before reaching the campsite at Wayllabamba. This first day is designed for gradual acclimatization, combining road travel and trekking through agricultural valleys and mountain scenery. The guide sets a comfortable pace, ensuring orientation, safety, and a smooth start to the expedition while the support team prepares the campsite for the night.
DAY 2: WAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYO
Departure from Wayllabamba with a steady ascent guided toward Warmiwañusca, the highest mountain pass of the route. After reaching the summit, the trail descends into the valley of Pacaymayo where the second campsite is located. This stage represents the main physical challenge of the Inca Trail, with significant elevation gain and panoramic Andean landscapes. Throughout the climb and descent, the guide maintains a safe rhythm, provides continuous assistance, and ensures that each traveler progresses steadily across high-altitude terrain before arriving at camp for rest and recovery.
DAY 3: PACAYMAYO – RUNKURAKAY – SAYACMARCA – PHUYUPATAMARCA – WIÑAY WAYNA
From Pacaymayo, the guided route continues across mountain passes and stone paths toward Runkurakay, then onward to Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca. The trek proceeds to the campsite near Wiñay Wayna. This day combines cultural exploration with diverse ecosystems, including highland landscapes and cloud forest sections. The guide provides interpretation at each archaeological sector while leading the group along well-preserved original pathways, making this stage one of the most scenic and historically rich parts of the journey.
DAY 4: WIÑAY WAYNA – INTI PUNKU – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO
Early departure from Wiñay Wayna heading toward Inti Punku, followed by guided entry into Machu Picchu. After the visit, bus transfer to Aguas Calientes, train journey to Ollantaytambo, and final transport back to Cusco. The final day blends trekking and guided exploration with organized ground and rail transportation, ensuring a structured and efficient return while concluding one of the world’s most iconic trekking experiences.
