Detail

Maras and Moray are two unique sites located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in the Cusco region of Peru. Maras is an ancient salt-extraction center, consisting of over 3,000 salt pans that are still in use by the local population. The salt pans were built by the Incas over 500 years ago and are fed by a natural spring.

On the other hand, Moray is a remarkable archaeological site consisting of a series of terraced circular depressions, built by the Incas in the form of an amphitheater. It is believed that the site was used as an agricultural laboratory, where the Incas experimented with different crops and growing techniques. Both Maras and Moray are popular tourist destinations, offering visitors an insight into the Inca culture and a chance to explore the stunning landscapes of the Sacred Valley.

Itinerary

Day 1Maras - Moray - Sacred Valley Tour

At 7:00 a.m., we will pick you up from your Cusco hotel. Then we’ll drive through the Inca Sacred Valley to the Taray viewpoint, which is 3200 meters (10498 feet) above sea level. From there, you may take in the breathtaking view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the Urubamba River. Then we’ll drive to the Pisac archeological site.

Pisac is one of the Sacred Valley’s most stunning Inca sites. Pisac served as the ruling Inca family’s palace throughout the Inca Empire. You will be taken on a guided tour of the most notable Inca structures, including the astronomical observatory, royal residences, and the Inca neighborhoods.

After exploring Pisac, we will drive to Urubamba, which is located in the Sacred Valley’s lowest region. We’ll make a pit break there for a traditional buffet lunch. The tour fee does not include the buffet lunch.

Then, we’ll go to the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo was both a shrine and a royal palace during the times of the Inca Empire. The most prominent aspect of this Inca site is its lengthy stone stairs, which can be seen from afar. You will be given a guided tour of these amazing Inca ruins.

Following that, we will travel to the Moray archeological site. Moray is made up of multiple Inca circular terraces. Some historians believe that Moray was utilized to cultivate foods from hotter climates, such as the high jungles of Cusco. As a result, Moray is frequently regarded as an ancient Inca laboratory.

The Maras Salt Mines will be our next stop. Maras is made up of hundreds of little water ponds. When exposed to sunshine, the water evaporates, leaving behind the salt. Maras is situated close to a mountain gorge, creating a one-of-a-kind scenery.

Then, we’ll go to Chinchero, a lovely town known for its colonial church. The Chinchero church is home to various works of colonial art, including paintings and sculptures. The paintings are from the Cusco Art School, a 15th-century artistic tradition. You will see the Chinchero cathedral as well as the ruins of Tupac Inca Yupanqui’s Palace.

Finally, we’ll return to Cusco, where we’ll arrive around 6:00 p.m.
