Detail

The Sacred Valley of the Incas is a region located in the southern Andes Mountains of Peru. It was an important part of the Inca Empire, and it has been inhabited since at least 800 BC. The valley is home to some of the most impressive ruins left behind by this ancient civilization, including Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo. The area also features stunning mountain scenery, lush green valleys, traditional Quechua villages, and other archaeological sites that offer insight into Peru’s past.

The Sacred Valley’s mild climate and fertile soil made it an ideal place for agriculture during pre-Columbian times. To take advantage of this natural resource, the Incas built terraces along steep slopes to increase agricultural production and created irrigation systems to bring water from streams down into their fields. These techniques allowed them to grow maize (corn), potatoes, quinoa (an edible grain native to South America) as well as many other crops which they used both for food and religious ceremonies.

Today visitors can explore these ancient sites while also taking part in activities such as horseback riding through highland trails, or learning about local customs with a visit to a traditional market town like Pisac or Chinchero, where artisans still practice age-old weaving methods passed down through generations.

No matter what one chooses to do within The Sacred Valley, it is sure that one will be captivated by its beauty, charm, history, culture and people, making this destination an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Sacred Valley of the Incas - Aguas Calientes Pisac

At 7:00 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then we will drive to the Inca ruins of Pisac. Pisac was an important religious and political center during the reign of the Incas, and its ruins reflect that importance.

The main attractions at Pisac are its terraces, which were used to cultivate crops such as maize, quinoa, potatoes, and beans. There are also stone walls that served as defensive fortifications against invading forces. Other features include ceremonial platforms, storehouses for food storage, aqueducts for irrigation purposes, and temples dedicated to various gods such as Inti (the Sun God) and Pachamama (Mother Earth).

Urubamba

After visiting Pisac, we will travel to Urubamba town, where we will stop to have lunch. Urubamba also provides access to several outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and whitewater rafting on the nearby Urubamba River. Visitors can also enjoy shopping for locally made crafts at the traditional market. After lunch, we will go to Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo is a small town located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, near Cusco in Peru. The town has an important archaeological site and it was once an important administrative center for the Inca Empire. It contains many well-preserved ruins which include terraces, temples, and fortifications that were built by the Inca people.

One of Ollantaytambo’s most impressive features is its massive stone fortress which stands on top of a mountain overlooking the valley below. This fortress was used to protect the Incas from invading forces. Inside this fortress are numerous structures including temples, storehouses, palaces, and other buildings where people lived and worked during ancient times.

After exploring the ruins of Ollantaytambo, we will board a train to Aguas Calientes town. After arriving there, we will transfer you to your hotel room. Then, you will have free time to explore the town and its famous hot springs.

Day 2:Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

You will leave your hotel room early in the morning after having breakfast. Then, we will travel by bus to Machu Picchu citadel. After clearing the security checkpoint, you will have a complete guided tour of the site.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca citadel located in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Built in the 15th century, it was abandoned just over a hundred years later and remained largely unknown until 1911 when it was rediscovered by archeologist Hiram Bingham. Today, Machu Picchu is one of the most famous archaeological sites in South America and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

The exact purpose or function of Machu Picchu remains unclear but theories range from being a royal estate to a spiritual retreat or even an astronomical observatory used to track celestial events like solstices or eclipses. It may also have been used for agricultural production due to its location on fertile land with access to water sources nearby.

Whatever its original purpose may have been, today Machu Picchu stands as a testament to Inca engineering skill and ingenuity. Not only did they build this incredible city in extremely challenging terrain, but they did so using simple tools.

If you have bought a ticket to Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain, our staff will direct you to the respective entry. After the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. The lunch is not included in the tour price.

After lunch, we will board a train to return to Ollantaytambo. Once we get there, our staff will transfer you back to Cusco city, where you will be arriving around 10:00 pm.
