We will start our journey by collecting you from your accommodation in Cusco at 4 am. After that, we will head to Ollantaytambo – a small town located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas within the Cusco Region.
Ollantaytambo is a popular tourist spot because of its Incan ruins and the striking Ollantaytambo Fortress. This site is renowned for its Inca-style construction, cobblestone roads, and numerous eateries and stores. Once we arrive there, we will take a train from Ollantaytambo to Km 104 station, which marks the beginning of the Short Inca Trail.
Once we reach Km 104, we will proceed to the Inca Trail after going through a security screening. Afterwards, our hike will take us to Wiñay Wayna, an ancient Inca site in Peru located along the trail. It consists of terraces, plazas, and buildings that used to serve as both a spiritual center and agricultural hub at an altitude of 8,700 feet (2,650 meters). This is one of the most visited spots by hikers on the Inca Trail.
We will break for a quick lunch at a campsite near Wiñay Wayna before continuing on our journey to Inti Punku, also known as the Sun Gate. Once we pass through this landmark, we will have reached Machu Picchu.
Today, the guided tour of Machu Picchu is not taking place. We will be departing from the citadel and boarding a bus to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, our team will take you to your lodging for the night. Following that, you will have lots of time to explore the town and its renowned hot springs.
We plan to depart from our hotel shortly after breakfast and take a bus to the Machu Picchu citadel. Upon arrival, we will be required to pass through security before entering the archaeological site.
Machu Picchu is renowned worldwide for its archaeological significance and breathtaking beauty. Constructed in the 15th century by the Incas, this site is situated high up in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Its structures are composed of a mix of granite, limestone, and other materials that give it an unmistakable look.
If you have bought tickets to either Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountain, our team will direct you to the appropriate entry points. Once you have finished discovering Machu Picchu, we shall go back to Aguas Calientes.
Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, you will be able to grab lunch from a restaurant at your own expense. Later on in the day, we will board a train to Ollantaytambo and then drive you back to your hotel in Cusco. We should be getting there around 10 pm.
